I've been working on rather a lot of re-rips recently, last posted in February 2019, there was much room for improvement with an album which has become a favourite over the years.
Belgium's Dole had a little more longevity than many of the other bands to have featured here. Here is their excellent and only long player, produced by Adrian Borland of The Sound. If you didn't know, you would expect Dole to have been an English band because their sounds, their melodies and their sentiments are very British. In fact, if you could possibly imagine an album by a band somewhere in the realms of The Sound, The Chameleons & The Teardrop Explodes produced by Adrian Borland ...then that should be enough to interest the majority of you.

ReplyDeleteBrilliant, I'm thinking Belgium is an underappreciated source of music. Of more recent vintage I'm rather fond of the group Balthazar.
ReplyDelete"Ou est le son?": I saw them open for the Sound in Ciney (Belgium) in 1986. I remember The Sound arriving 30 minutes before their concert... round 19h00 the organizers were accosting every Englishman at the gig asking "are you the sound?". Also, "all them English" at the gig seemed to have some Jazz Butcher connection... Anyway, really, really curious what this sounds like, I haven't heard them in 37 years. Thank you, Blogmeister!
ReplyDeleteI know there was a band called "The Dole" on an early Cherry Red compilation. They were from Peterborough UK. Never heard of this group from Belgium, but this is right in my sweet spot. Belgium sure had a way of nailing that post-punk sound.
