  Eno & Cale - Wrong Way Up [WAST 009LP UK 2020 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Time now for a brand new ...and much improved re-rip of one of my favourite albums from the nineties. I had been kicking myself for years (thirty-plus it would seem), that I never bought the original vinyl pressing of Wrong Way Up . At the time, I was happy enough with my original compact disc however ever since then, yearned to get it on vinyl. When it recently a few years back as a thirty year anniversary repress, I snapped it up. This is an album which evokes fond memories - the intricate layers of electronica, strings and guitar mixed in with clever vocal melodies sung by rock/avant stalwarts (both now aging old codgers) Brian Eno and John Cale. If you have never heard this before - you really need to!  Lay My Love , One Word and Spinning Away are the finest antidotes you will ever hear to the dizzy-druggy-baggy-pseudo-indie-pop fodder of the late eighties and early nineties.   Brian Eno - Music For Films [ENO2LP9 2x45RPM UK 2018 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Originally released as a single album in a limited edition of 500 on EG Records in 1976. The eventual 1978 release was trimmed down and re-ordered into what is now accepted as the 'standard' version. This version follows the running order of the 1978 'standard' version however is re-cut by  Miles Showell at Abbey Road using the half speed mastering process on to two 45rpm platters.   Brian Eno - Before And After Science [ENOLP 4 UK 2017 24-Bit FLAC] Originally released in 1977, Eno's fourth album carried on from where Another Green World left off, with his characteristic of creative art-rock and experimental meanderings. Essentially his last before he went fully ambient, guest musicians included Phil Collins, Jaki Liebezeit, Fred Frith,  Phil Manzanera,  Möbi Moebius & Achim Roedelius. Eno spent a lot of time in Germany at the time, his most acclaimed work was with David Bowie on Low & Heroes and the electronic Cluster which culminated in the excellent  After The Heat long player. This album ended Eno's 'Winkies' phase putting to bed the pub-rock meets art-rock period of his work, however he still revealed a skill with regular songwriting on tracks such as Here He Comes .   Brian Eno - Another Green World [ENOLP3 UK 2017 24-Bit FLAC] Widely appreciated as his best, Another Green World was released way back in 1975, there was likely nothing like it at the time, unless of course you had already discovered albums by various German musicians - let's be honest, not too many of us were listening to experimental and ambient music back in 1975 - okay, maybe a regular follower in Liverpool was? Nick? Another Green World was a stepping stone between the glam/art-rock and ambient sequences of Eno's life and there are references to both throughout. Discreet Music was also released the same year, but it would be a little while longer before Music For Films ....and Airports . Eno hadn't yet mixed with Cluster/Moebius & Roedelius, he had not yet hung out with Bowie in Berlin to conspire for that second side of Low.   Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) [ENOLP2 UK 2017 24-Bit FLAC] The difficult second album? Actually no, in fact I can't split  Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) and  Here Come The Warm Jets as part of Eno's solo art-rock phase. Most of Warm Jets could have been Roxy Music tracks, Tiger Mountain has a few more complex pieces - Eno didn't have the looks, the hair or the voice of the Ferry, but he certainly knew how to integrate intricate elements into his work. Phil Manzanera features heavily on both albums, we had to wait for Another Green World to truly hear the innovative post-Roxy Eno. This is the nicely reproduced 2017 reissue of Eno's 1974 album, mastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road. The pressing is a little rumbly in the quieter parts however that doesn't affect the punch and detail brought by the remastering, therefore I've retained by 176.4 files for those who like that sort of thing. Brian Eno & David Byrne - My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts [EGLP 48 UK 1981 24-Bit FLAC] Okay, hands up who doesn't have a copy of My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts . This is one of those albums I have on both CD and vinyl after I went through a phase of buying Eno on CD. My vinyl copy is the original UK version on EG Records, including the sensitively removed track Qu'ran  missing from subsequent pressings. It was the use of loops and cut-ups which had me transfixed, whilst the technique was not that new, my personal fixation with the technique led me to buy a lot of records with loops and early samples - my school music teacher ran a lunch time class on electronics in music and allowed us to create 'music' using loops on a reel to reel. I actually bought this copy some years later at a record fare and am grateful to the original owner who clearly preserved his vinyl better than I did at the time.
