David Axelrod - Heavy Axe [CR00521 USA 2023 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC]

Recently reissued as part of Craft Recording Jazz Dispensary Top Shelf Series, band leader David Axelrod's funky fusion classic Heavy Axe was originally released on Fantasy Records in 1974. This release is cut from the original master tapes by Kevin Gray and pressed at RTI.

Mixed & produced by Cannonball Adderley and featuring George Duke on keyboards, this album has been heavily sampled by hip-hop artists over the decades which has driven up prices on the secondary market. Featuring funky covers of diverse artists such as Carly Simon & Stevie Wonder, the modern day discerning listener will find much to enjoy among these grooves, especially the seventies porn-funk of Mucho Chupar and the moog-funk of Everything Counts.
