Waiting For The Floods
The Armoury Show - Waiting For The Floods [ST-17163 USA 1985 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC]
Conceived as a 'super-group' assembled by former members of The Skids and Magazine, The Armoury Show had a brief career, heavily promoted by EMI Records, adored by a loyal following however they never really broke through beyond their fan base to deliver on the expectations of the label.
Key players, Richard Jobson abandoned Scotland in favour of reading abstract poetic prose to Belgian audiences on Les Disques Du Crépuscule before a new career as a model and TV presenter and John McGeoch (likely the most important rock guitarist of his generation) stopped by between his careers with Magazine, Siouxsie And The Banshees and Public Image Limited.
Waiting For The Floods was their only album, rich in McGeoch's rock guitar textures and Jobson's overblown lyrical drama. This record certainly has its place in time, it has never been reissued except for a heavily compressed and loud compact disc from 2013. Enjoy.

ReplyDeletemany thanks for this, looks interesting...
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteTrack 4 jungle of cities seems to be missing.
Could you take a look as time allows.
If I am wrong I apologize in advance.
Best wishes, Colin
Hi. That track does not appear on the US version
DeleteThanks for clearing that up for me.
DeleteAm enjoying this. many thanks.
Many thanks, I have this and a Japanese pressing, I also wrote the sleeve notes for the 2013 2CD release...
ReplyDeleteThe demos sound so much better, they don't have that '1980s production sheen' that the official release has
Also the UK / Euro and Japanese releases have 'Jungle Of Cities' as Side 1 track 4. For some reason the US version dropped it.
ReplyDeletethanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI have both this American version and the 2013 2CD release which I picked up after my last turntable died. It will be great to hear "my" LP again! Many thanks.

Botheration, still don't have my rig together to have done this task myself. Thank you BM. Nice balance! It would be wonderful to hear the demos released to the wild...
