Obscured In Clouds
Various Artists - The Clouds Have Groovy Faces (Rubble Six) [KIRI 049 UK 1986 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC]
I've been threatening to dig into my collection of Rubbles from eccentric British label, Bam Caruso Records for a number of years. Well, here is one of them, rather than begin at the beginning, I've opted for number six today. I have been known to be a bit of a label collector and Bam Caruso is one of the most collectible labels from the eighties - specialising in obscure psyche reissues, eighties paisley revival pop & eclectic baroque rock, their catelogue is quite significant in size - if you've been following my rips over the past 10+ years, you may already have quite a few scattered amongst your drives.
Curated from the Decca archives by label supremo Phil Smee, most of these sixteen fuzzy sixties pop numbers are monaural but that's the way they did things back then. Given the production rawness of these tracks, I am rather pleased with how this rip came out. The band names and track titles should be a hint of what to expect.

Thank you!!! Bam Caruso really got the psych collector fad going and in my opinion did it better than almost anyone else. Each release had beautiful covers and extensive liner notes on some of the most obscure bands on the planet. They also released some very good psych revival bands like Plasticland, Fortunate Sons, and Palace Of LIght. Such a great label!
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff! More psych, please. Is there any chance of you posting/re-posting any of the non-Rubble Bam Caruso compilations, please? I discovered ESWA too late.
ReplyDeleteI would also love to hear more of the Rubble series. I actually have the whole series on vinyl, but it's packed away in storage. I only have The Psychedelic Snarl on the original Bam Caruso label and then collected the rest of the series when it was re-released on Past & Present Records. These albums are so nicely done and at the time they felt like quite a contrast to the American Pebbles compilations which seemed rather haphazardly thrown together without a lot of quality control.
ReplyDeleteI have quite a few Rubble, it will take me a while, however I will eventually work my way through them. I would also like to revisit some of the other gems in the Bam Caruso catelogue.
