Car Crash Set - Join The Car Crash Set [ANNA 01.2008 DEU 2014 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC]

Kiwi bands always seem to get a raw deal, if it wasn't for Split Enz (who most thought came from Australia) and John Peel's exposure of the Flying Nun label bands, many would never be heard outside their home market. I think it must be down to distance, after all these two islands are approx three hours from the nearest other state. A handy place to be when Vlad The Mad is threateningly waving his missiles around, but not far enough away for secret agents from a major European state to sink the ship belonging to peaceful environmental protesters (there I go again).

Here is a fine compilation of some works of Car Crash Set, a New Zealand indie-synthpop band from the eighties who released one very hard to find album and six singles on Reaction records between 1983 & 1986. This release came courtesy of German synthwave reissue label Anna Logue Records, pressed in 2008 and later again in 2014. Some of the tracks are clearly mastered to vinyl from demo cassettes so don't expect tip-top fidelity on all tracks, instead expect some superb Antipodean new wave synthpop.

The track Fall From Grace is a personal favourite & will stand out to many, for audibly obvious reasons.

A1  Hit And Run
A2  Outsider
A3  Toys
A4  Heart Of Stone (Demo)
B1  Another Day (Demo)
B2  Heart Of Stone
B3  Dreams
B4  Fall From Grace

  3. Ah! I don't have this, having lumped them in with "Auckland music" at the time. Thank you.

  5. Wow, that track's instrumentation really sounds like a B-Music production. I could almost imagine it to be a Section 25 outtake from the From The Hip sessions.

    1. Yes, its remarkable how that disorganised synth sound found its way across twelve time zones.
