Another Sleepless Night.....

Tracy Chapman - Tracy Chapman [EKT 44 UK 1988 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC]

Tracy never got her revolution, she heralded the end of the Reagan years with her folksy rock only to discover that the Bush dynasty was coming. Her lyrical subject matter always championed the underdog, the downtrodden and the abused. The eleven beautifully crafted compositions adorning her debut album made her an overnight worldwide superstar, however like many other protest singers, she sold millions of records, tapes and compact discs to an adoring middle class and nothing changed. I often wonder what she thought of William Jefferson Clinton.

Never reissued on vinyl, the Tracy Chapman debut album was digitally recorded in Hollwoood CA, mastered at Masterdisk NY - my British copy was pressed by Record Service in Germany. Like many WEA releases in Europe, the pressing is okay - I have washed away the years since I last played this record with a Tergikleen and distilled water solution, then given it a spin in the HumminGuru, the results will speak for themselves.

  2. Good album but for sleeplessness I recommend Plateaux of Mirror (Ambient 2) by Mr Eno and Mr Budd. :)

    1. My sleepless reference comes from the sample of Behind The Wall used by Vini Reilly on a Durutti Column track.

  3. "Fast Car" was the big hit, but "Baby Can I Hold You" is the best track on here, IMNHO. In reading about her, I see she won $450k from Nicki Minaj for copyright issues related to this very song. Good for Chapman. This song is too perfect as-is to touch.
