Time for one more mean bassist - Stephen Bruner was once bass player in LA skate-metal-punks Suicidal Tendencies, these days he now goes my the name Thundercat and wants to turn the listener's perception of soul/funk/jazz on it's head. This album will make you dizzy with its complexities, twists & turns and blends of style. 

Thundercat could well be the bastard son of Frank Zappa and George Clinton. 

Pressed onto four individual red vinyl 45rpm ten inch records, each in its own sleeve, this is the album which brought Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins out of retirement and proves how good vocalists can actually be without the need for auto-tune. Thundercat also has a pretty decent voice. I don't care much for Kendrick Lamar who appears alongside modern soul voice-for-hire Pharrell Williams.

Don't worry too much, this is not strictly a soul record, it challenges and deceives, it then does more than just enough to scare off the casual music streaming market.
