I have worked on a good few Japanese releases recently, nearly all have been older recordings, maybe it is about time I brought things up to date with something new. It is worth noting however, that one of the bands on this mini-album is actually American.

From Osaka's J-Indie pop world come Pictured Resort, who are essentially just singer/songwriter Koji Takagi. He whisks away to sunnier climates on exotic sunny islands with his brand of synthy dream-pop much like the former new-wave of USA indie bands, Wild Nothing and Craft Spells, although with a good covering of factor 30, In actual fact, there is a video of Pictured Resorts covering Craft Spells' After The Moment somewhere on YouTube. Pictured Resort have released three albums in Japan only, most of which are already deleted and quite collectible, if you can afford them.

Work Drugs from Philadelphia have been around for over ten years. With eleven albums under their belt, you would have assumed they would be better known, however their retro-pop sound may be a little tame for some. Think Sophie & Peter Johnston meets The Adventures meets Wilson Phillips and you'll be in the right kind of mood.

Sometimes, a little pop is okay.....

    Thank you for sharing! I know Work Drugs back catalogue quite well. I'm new to Pictured Resort. Given your description, I should find them quite nicely put into my files of collected artists and tracks that fit the synthy dream pop zones.

    Wow thanks very much for this. The first song already captured my ears. Some echoes of China Crisis here and there along with their personal style provide that great feeling that only good pop music can give. Not by chance one of WD's albums is called "Flaunt the imperfection". Just like CC's album ironically produced by the perfectionist Walter Becker.
    Both a contemporary listen and a reminder of sounds from our youth.
    Once more, in a better world this will be coming from every radio speaker.
