Blending folk & country pastoralism, hairy indie-rock and swampy psychedelia with sixties Americana, The Hanging Stars sound like the missing link between the California desert sun and the grey skies of Walthamstow. The album was recorded in Los Angeles, Nashville and Walthamstow, with each of these vastly different places leaving an indelible mark on the resulting album. If you have ever been to Walthamstow, you would be forgiven for not believing these Stars are a Walthamstow band.

Crippled Shining Blues beholds an earworm hook to stick in your head for years to come and is easily the stand out track among these thirteen shimmering tracks of mellow alternative rock, laden with catchy melodies, delicate harmonies and pedal steel guitars. 

This rip is from my original (and quite rare) pressing of their debut album on aquamarine vinyl, sold in limited quantities at gigs and via the now defunct Great Pop Supplement label. Caste aside your prejudices and give Over The Silvery Lake a listen, this is really good stuff.
