Who Really Cares?
Care - My Boyish Days (Drink To Me) [KBIRD 121 UK 1983 24-Bit FLAC]
Care were from Liverpool (watch yer wheels, sir) and comprised The Wild Swans frontman, Paul Simpson and Ian Broudie, the latter musician having an ear for a seriously good tune. They managed just three great pop singles before splitting over musical differences and My Boyish Days was their debut released on Arista back in 1983. An album had been demoed but was never completed before they went their seperate ways, Simpson rejoining The Wild Swans and Broudie becoming the successful Lightning Seeds. We should have cared more.
A1 My Boyish Days (Drink To Me)

ReplyDeleteBlogmeister, your collection is incredible, as your rips, many thanks for all these rare and wonderful stuff!
ReplyDeleteCheers mate
ReplyDeleteI found this 12 inch and the follow up 'Whatever Possessed You' in a dusty crate at the back of a rundown resale shop back in 1993. I had no clue who they were at that point, but paying $1 U.S. made it a no brainer purchase. Needless to say, I filed them in the collect and didn't think anything of it. Years later, I rediscovered the back catalogue of Ian Broudie and Paul Simpson and it reminded me I had those 12'ers. Recorded and scanned them and sold them on Discogs for quite a bit more than I paid, like $100 US! Thanks for your recording here.
ReplyDeleteA lot of the unreleased album was eventually released in the late 90s on the "Diamonds and Emeralds" CD - with much emphasis on Broudie in the wake of his Lightning Seeds success - and it's very good indeed.
ReplyDeleteYes, that's an excellent compilation. But if memory served some of the tracks were demos that were not approved by the whole band before release. I recall some personal correspondence on that issue at the time but... hazy memories.
