Bummer In The Summer
Love - Forever Changes [8122797115 USA 2012 24-Bit FLAC]
As summer breaks out across the northern hemisphere, here is a little psychedelic Los Angeles sunshine for your listening pleasure. I was late to the party with love, my first purchase of this album was a 1987 mid-price compact disc reissue made with old fashioned AAD technology. I was attracted to this 2012 pressing on vinyl as Rhino claim to have used the analog master rather than any of the digital remasters which have been used before (and after).
Whilst the 2015 remaster used for high resolution download websites sparkles, it does sound very different as the space and separation from the original is mostly lost. This pressing stays closer to the original, it is quiet, wide and spacious with a good deal of independence between the channels, thus maintaining most of stereo separation of the original. Normalisation is not an option when working with this type of production. I always feel nervous posting my rips of classic albums, firstly because somebody else will likely have done a better job ....and also it draws attention to those who are not welcome on this blog.

Many thanks...an absolute classic..much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteThank you !
ReplyDeleteI grew up thinking LA in the 60s meant The Doors and Buffalo Springfield. I loved the former and have come to better understand the latter, but when I discovered Love in 1983, everything fell into place. Love's sound was the sound of LA, hard rock, folk rock, psychedelic rock and influences of Mexican Mariachi and even Flamenco. There music was the sound of the streets and the homes sitting on them.
ReplyDeleteSpot on mate
DeleteIf you go on the BBC app on the telly, you can watch the amazing set from Glasto 2003 - I believe it's the final authorised live recording of Forever Changes before his untimely death - and he is in superb voice with a string orchestra and brass ensemble. One of the greatest albums of all time performed with all the love (no pun intended) it deserved. Thanks SO much for this!!
ReplyDeleteCheers for this mate
ReplyDeleteThanks
ReplyDeleteAlways plenty to discover in this fine record.
Saw people playing air violin and air trumpet when Arthur played it live early 2000s.
