Win - ...Uh! Tears Baby (A Trash Icon) [LONLP 31 UK 1987 24-Bit FLAC]

I was never happy with my 2012 rip of ....Uh! Tears Baby (A Trash Icon), so to round off my current short run of three classic eighties pop album re-rips, here is a new 2020 rip of this great album. You may recall what I wrote back in 2012 over on ESWA...

I have never understood how both London Records then Virgin failed to get mainstream recognition and success out of Win. Davey Henderson is a genius at writing catchy pop tunes and despite the efforts of two major labels (and a well known Scottish lager TV advert), consistently failed to get a much deserved hit. 

Their debut album is a truly superb collection of eleven sing-a-long candyfloss pop tunes. Win take indie-synthpop music to it's catchiest limits and blend in vocal harmonies, to produce one of the most important albums of the decade. But there were flaws....

London flogged it to death with multiple singles in multiple formats all of which seemed to feature a mix of You've Got The Power. I'm pretty sure the album's title confused the pop audience and pigeon holed Win as an obscure indie act and to be even more slightly critical the production and mix seem flat and two dimensional. The re-recorded version of UnAmerican Broadcasting is quite weak when compared to the original Swamplands single.The move over to Virgin resulted in the weaker Freaky Trigger follow-up album which seemed to dilute the formulas of its predecessor (imho) and with even more single formats! Win then morphed into Nectarine No.9 and sadly not too many paid attention.

I challenge you not to love this album - the best pop album of the 80's was Lexicon Of Love - if only Trevor Horn had produced Uh! Tears Baby (A Trash Icon)?

    Agreed 100%. Davey Henderson is indeed a genius, but it would have helped Win's career if he had made his album and song titles as simple and direct as "You've Got The Power".

    More than a few folks must have paid attention to Nectarine No.9, because they recently performed some reunion shows in support of the 2CD reissue of their first album, "Saint Jack". And just as Win morphed into the NN9, so has the NN9 morphed into the Sexual Objects, who are also well worth a listen.

    This one (Tears Baby) is hard to find on CD. Thank you for the new rip!

    I absolutely LUV all things Henderson, from Fire Engines to SOs (a tough one to Google, btw). You have to hear the b-side of the "you've got the power" 7", awesome version of "In Heaven (Lady In The Radiator Song)" that David Lynch wrote for "Eraserhead".
