Recorded in a post-Thirst world with a new band in London in late 1981, Sons Of Sons is dedicated to original Clock DVA guitarist Steven James Turner who passed away in September 1981. Lovingly coaxed from a 30+ year old 12" vinyl single, all four tracks sound amazingly crisp yet dark, brooding and ever so slightly funky.

Clock DVA - High Holy Disco Mass [POSPX 499 UK 1982 24-Bit FLAC]

Newton unleashed this slap bass and horn driven (with Beggar & Co.) 12" single as just DVA. The term disco in the title is quite misleading because I just can't imagine this going down well in any nightclub - it is virtually impossible to dance to. Don't let that put you off because it is a great track, featured on the twelve inch single in two full length versions combined with the abstract film noir jazz that is The Voice That Speaks From Within.

Clock DVA - Resistance [POSPX 578 UK 1983 24-Bit FLAC]

A Clock DVA promo video is a rare thing, however I can only find one from the second generation of the band and it was Resistance with Adi Newton casting himself, all tied up as a sub-De Niro agent of fortune. By sheer coincidence, Travis Bickle himself seems to have distributed this live video recorded in Berlin around the same time.

Clock DVA - Breakdown [POSPX 627 UK 1983 24-Bit FLAC]

I suppose if Clock DVA were ever going to have a hit single, then it would have been Breakdown with is strong horn hook (hindered possibly by this messy remix), however it wasn't to have been and Adi Newton has done everything possible since to help us forget this period of work. Many will appreciate the solid Velvet Underground cover on the flipside.
