Golden Palominos - Visions Of Excess [CELL 6118 USA 1985 24-Bit FLAC]

The hardcore of those Golden Palominos were founder Anton Fier, Bill Laswell, Bernie Worrell and Jody Harris. Augmented by a series of guest vocalists they followed their very experimental hip-hop/art-rock crossover self-titled debut with Visions Of Excess which was to become their most recognised piece of work. 

The guest list for the album is fairly momentous - Micheal Stipe, John Lydon and Jack Bruce add their voices to these eight alternative rock pieces, however it is the superb voice of Syd Straw which stands out above those of her luminaries. Many will head straight for the Stipe numbers, Boy (Go), Clustering Train and his REM'ish cover of Moby Grape's Omaha, but please also give credence to Straw's gorgeous voice on Buenos Aires and (Kind Of) True.  John Lydon does his best to ruin things with his belching intro to The Animal Speaks, however this is better than most of what he was doing with his PiL incarnation around the same time. Fans of heavy-blues-rock will no doubt enjoy Jack Bruce belting his way through Silver Bullet.
