State Of Art - Dreams Factory [RGR 1202 ITA 2016 24-Bit FLAC]

State of Art were an Italian post-punk-funk band from Milan who only managed one vinyl release, a self-titled 12 inch EP during 1983. There was a whole wrath of unreleased material which eventually found their way onto a retrospective compilation CD in 2009. The band reformed to record and release an album At Work during 2011  ...Dreams Factory followed in 2016 and it has made many in the US and Europe sit up and take notice, including your blogger, who was introduced to the band through a post on the ESWA 2.0 site.

This album sits between what current day A Certain Ratio are doing and what New Order should be doing! Side one is a funky-disco affair, catchy as hell it strikes a great groove. Side two is much more synth-poppy, just listen to Dreamers which is full of all those hooks we used to love about New Order. Front man Federico Di Bonaventura sounds nothing like Bernard Sumner, however you have to remember English is not his native tongue and because of that, many Italian bands have struggled to break outside home markets. 

A bloody good listen, more old men showing the kids how it should be done ....highly recommended!
